How To Look Beautiful In 3 Easy Steps!

[Originally written on the 26th of June].

Hello there! Today, I’m going to show you how to look beautiful in 3 super easy steps!
Step 1: Walk up to the mirror.
Step 2: Look at your reflection.
Step 3: Say “I’m beautiful”.
And there you have it! You are now beautiful. Stop feeling insecure about the way you look. You are supermegafoxyawesomehot, and don’t you ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Luis Suárez- Three bites, you're out!

Note: This was originally written on the 26th of June 2014.
Also, I am incredibly excited about Luis's signing at FC Barcelona and I wish him a successful, biting-free 5 years (unless he wants to bite a Real Madrid player, which in all honesty, I'm okay with!)

The minute Luis Suárez’s teeth sunk into Chiellini’s flesh (how graphic!) I immediately thought, “this calls for a blog post!”
So let me break it down to you… Actually, there really isn’t anything to break down. The bloke bit a man! And this isn’t even the first time!

Luis Suárez has quite a reputation for attempting to consume his opponents.
Now what I don’t quite understand is what was going on inside Suárez’s head. Was he staring lustfully at Chiellini’s shoulder just waiting to take a chunk out of that bad boy? Because in all honesty, this is cannibalism! This is vampirism!

And you know what? It’s actually kind of sad. Uruguay qualified against Italy, which was such an awesome achievement, but no one even mentioned that because all anyone could talk about after the match was Suárez (and for all the wrong reasons). And what’s worse is that he’s almost certainly going to get sent home from the World Cup after his little biting incident, letting Uruguay, who are so dependent on him (he really is a great player!), down. He might even be banned from international football for the rest of his life.
But what really made me scratch my head is why he’s repeated the exact same action 3 times!!!
So I decided to do a little bit of research…
According to psychologist Dr. Saima Latif from the Telegraph, ‘Luis Suarez bite comes from childhood humiliation and frustration’. Take a look at this…
“Research shows that the most violent period of our lives is when we are between three and four years old. That is the most aggressive stage of development, because if we don’t get what we want, we fight and lash out. It’s also the stage when the Id takes over; a basic instinct when we can’t control our temperament.
Perhaps his (Suárez’s) biting started in childhood and was triggered by something, perhaps he was bitten in turn. To get to the root of the problem and address it effectively he does require psychological therapy which looks at the more deep-seated issues that might be of concern.
Suárez’s anger management therapy should have provided him with some techniques to cope with these situations, but it doesn’t seem to have been effective.
This may be because the therapy was part of his previous punishment [for the Ivanovic bite], therefore he just went through the motions and paid lip service to it. Either that, or it’s a spur of the moment act for him, so much so that he can’t utilise what he’s been taught.
His remarks after the match show that he’s trying to minimize his actions. Suárez trying to shift the blame is also a classic form of childish behaviour. Most children, when they are confronted with something they have done, will immediately take recourse in lying.”
So maybe he couldn’t control it (Chiellini does have quite an attractive-looking shoulder)… maybe it’s an instinct he was stuck with since he was a child. You kind of feel a bit sorry for him.
You have to admit though, it’s just a little bit funny (unless you’re Chiellini.)

One of my favourites... Suárez bit my finger

Well, would you look at that!
Oh, Nando's!
Well, you know what they say…

Newton vs Hooke: The Rap Battle

My name’s Hooke, Robert Hooke, and I am the man
This guy Newton’s just a shadow, of all that I am
I discovered the nature of springs because well, I can
But this guy here thinks he’s special, I’m not a fan
You think you’re all that, Hooke, but what have you done?
Discovered that a spring extends when stretched? Ooh, fun!
That’s not discovery, that’s child play, son
Take a look at the awards Isaac Newton has won
Your discoveries were stolen from me, you toerag
Maybe you should go back running to your mum and your dad
You think that you’re a genius, but listen up, lad
While I tell you about Hooke’s law, Newton, are you mad?!
Big deal, you’ve got a law, well I’ve got three!
Are you really comparing you and your rubbish to me?
The only thing I stole from you is all of your dignity
Newton’s first, second and third laws, and the law of gravity
I’ve done wonders in biology and physics, my friend
Let me put this in a way that you might comprehend
I’ve invented many things, and don’t you try to pretend
Cause my discoveries and theories just never seem to end
Are you kidding, listen buddy, please step aside
Maybe you’ll do something decent when you swallow your pride
I invented calculus, which you so nicely denied
Everything that I’ve done has been proved and applied
Every principle you’ve made, every word that you’ve said
You’ve the most absurd theories that my eyes ever read
All this hype about an apple that fell onto your head?!
Could it not have been a big round watermelon instead?
My discoveries outnumber all of yours any day
Understand, Mr Hooke, what I’m trying to say?
You could never outdo Newton, so get out of the way!
F don’t equal k•x, it’s equal to m•a
So forget all you’ve convinced yourself and all that you’ve known
Leave this epitome of brilliance and his theories alone
I’m the best of all the physicists, the king of the thrown
You may’ve discovered cells, but you just got owned!

TOP TEN REASONS WHY ANS IS THE BEST SCHOOL EVER

1. The walls are painted brilliantly.
Everyone loves yellow and blue, especially that type of yellow that has a vomit-y tinge, and the blue that’s so bright it hurts your eyes. And the thing about the way our school is painted is that you can basically see the immaculate strokes of the paintbrush. It doesn’t look like the blokes who painted our school were blindfolded at all.
Please, our school is a work of art enough to shame even Picasso, and if you don’t think so, well, you suck.
2. We don’t pretend for ADEC.
If there’s one thing I love about the folks at ANS, it’s that they don’t pretend during ADEC inspections. It’s merely a coincidence that the recycling bins arrive and the toilets are loaded with tissue paper the day before ADEC arrive. Psshhh.
Also, it’s completely normal to start teaching at 500% increased efficiency the second ADEC inspectors come in. Whatcho guys on about?
3. Our school uniform is da bomb.
Okay, we pull off the ADNOC-worker look brilliantly! I’m still in awe over the fact that I’ve never been asked to fill anyone’s car with petrol.
ANS students in their natural habitat.
4. We have SO many activities every year.
For example, last year, we had ADMUN … and… um… the talent show (No, wait, that got cancelled)… errr… cultural day! (No, that was at the Boys’ School… uhh… I’m sure I’ll think of something).
5. The IMMENSE love between GCE and High School just radiates out of our school’s beautifully painted walls.
The British system (GCE) and the American system (High School) live in harmony, peace and love all year round. You can especially feel this love during sports’ day (on the rare occasions when the school actually schedules one which isn’t right smack bam in the middle of our CIE exams). The love is evident from the cat fights and the swear words shouted across the gym. That’s what harmony looks like, unless I’m very much mistaken.
 6. They bring goats to school for Eid.
And that is the most pivotal feature you look for in a school.
7. I go there.
’Nuff said.
8. We got rated as a C in the last ADEC report.
And C is for cool.

9. The subject choices are awesome-pawesome.
One of my tip-top favourite things about our school is the flawless subject choice system. It forces you to pick between two subjects; say, biology or economics, chemistry or accounting, etc
And if you want to pick both? Then screw you. You’re stupid.
Also, the best thing that ANS has ever done is cut Physical Education out of the GCE student’s schedule. PE versus extra hours of maths and chemistry? It isn’t even a question. Who needs fitness away?
10. The ANSers.
Oftentimes, during a particularly depressing ADEC inspection, when bashing my head against a brick wall seems extremely appealing, I tend to ask myself why the hell I’m still in this school slash cemetery of dreams. And then I look around me and everything becomes clear- it’s because of the people. The ANSers. Because no matter how much I complain and nag and whine about ANS, I would never dream of leaving, and it’s because of those mentally challenged people I call my friends [woah, Malak, when did you get so cheesy?]. Because even though we’re all screwed here, we’re all screwed together, and that kind of makes all the suffering episodes worthwhile. We’re kind of like one weird (incredibly whiny) family, and in all honesty, I wouldn’t trade that for all the expensive, posh, toilet paper-containing schools in the world!

How to be Sudanese: The Official Guide

Note: Originally written on the 20th of June 2014

Having lived in 3 different continents, I’ve been surrounded by a wide variety of cultures in my 15.83 years. But of all the cultures I’ve seen in my life, the mostbizarre is without a shadow of doubt my very own, the Sudanese!
I have therefore decided to write you out a little guide on how to become Sudanese in 20 easy steps! Enjoy!
1. Live on Fool and Ta’mia.
Fool
Ta'mia
A Sudanese breakfast without Fool and Ta’mia is not Sudanese. And if you don’t like Fool and Ta’mia, then you aren’t Sudanese either!
2. Get yourself a sifinja.

The glorious "sifinja"
A “sifinja”, the Sudanese word for slipper, is the most abundant item in the Sudanese household. This, I believe, is because of its many uses. Sifinjas can be used as footwear, weaponry, and goal posts when playing street football. These delightful pieces of rubber just never stop giving!
3. Speak like a Sudanese.
This is one of the basics you’ve got to master if you want to be Sudanese. Sudanese people speak quickly and in a very sing-song voice. Here are a few phrases you are likely to hear in Sudanese conversation:
“Ya zoal” or “yakh”: the Sudanese equivalents to ‘bro’.
“Ya bit umi”: our way of saying ‘sista!’ It literally translates into ‘my mother’s daughter’.
“Wain al Fool?”: Where is the Fool?
“Aa-iy”: yes
“Shino?”: what?
“Bari”: this word has literally no meaning. It’s a term used in either of the following scenarios:
-Someone trips.
-You would like to refuse something.
-A child cries.
-You have absolutely no answer to a question someone asks you.
“Kur”: also has no meaning. It can be used when:
-Someone coughs.
-A child cries.
-Someone almost falls.
And there you have it! You can now speak Sudanese like a pro!
4. Dress like a Sudanese.
Standard Sudanese attire for men is the Jalabiya and the ‘Imma. For women, it’s the good ol’ Toub.
And if you’re a married Sudanese woman, then gurlfran, you better not be seen in public without Henna.
Jalabiya and 'Imma (left) and Toub (right). Jalabiya is the long white dress and 'Imma is the head wear. As you can plainly see, my mum is being a rebel and disobeying the Sudanese law of mandatory everyday Henna for married women, but she compensates with the Toub and gold.
5. Host a dinner party every single Friday.
Dinner parties to which the entire Sudanese community in your city is invited are extremely common (TOO common) in the life of a Sudanese. And you know what the best is? When your family decides to plan one of these bad boys during IGCSE’s/AS/ A2 Levels!
Please note that these dinner parties must contain Fool and Ta’mia.
6. Arrive late at all social gatherings.
Being fashionably late is one thing, but being Sudanesely late is another thing altogether!
7. Make a classic Sudanese exit when leaving a gathering.
The standard Sudanese exit consists of precisely the following phrases said in precisely the following order:
“Allah yesalimak”
“Allah yebarek feek”
“Allah yesalimak”
“Allah yebarek feek”
“Allah yesalimak”
“Allah yebarek feek”
It’s an infinite loop.
8. When greeting a fellow Sudanese, speak at the exact same time without paying any regard whatsoever to what the other party is saying.
What’s the point of ears? It’s not like whoever you’re greeting is going to say anything useful, now are they? You might as well blabber (in increasingly loud voices) at the same time.
9. Get yourself an excessive amount of gold.
If there’s one thing a Sudanese woman loves more than her gold, it’s buying it. I mean, come on, what’s a Sudanese woman without her BLING?!!
10. Invade other people’s privacy.
Respect other people’s privacy?

11. Become, marry and raise a doctor.
Now, this is Sudanese 101. It is absolutely critical that every single Sudanese person in the history of Sudan who wishes to make anything useful of himself (or herself) become a doctor. And as if that ain’t enough, you must also MARRY a doctor, and if you know what’s good for yourself, all of your offspring better become doctors, too.
12. Play terrible music.
I don’t think Sudanese people love their ears very much…
13. Make other people’s houses your home (in the most literal sense).
Sudanese people have a habit of reeeeally making themselves at home when they visit their friends, families and/or random strangers. This often means having SLEEPOVERS…………. when you haven’t even been invited.
14. Have a bed inside the living room.
If you don’t have a bed in the living room, then you should. Seriously. Get one. Now.
15. Subscribe to “The Blue Nile”.
Enter a Sudanese household, and you’re pretty much guaranteed to find all the women watching “The Blue Nile”, or as they call it, “Al Neel Al Azrag”, on TV. This basically involves watching nothing but evening parties in which the Beyoncé and Justin Timberlake of Sudan wow their adoring fans.
Note that the Sudanese government can fund all these parties, but can’t afford to feed all those poor Sudanese souls dying of hunger. Makes perfect sense.
16. March the house with Bakhour like it’s the Olympic Torch.

The "Bakhour"
This, my friend, is the Bakhour. And whether it’s a wedding, a funeral, the weekend, or a weekday, then your house better reek of Bakhour, son.
17. Learn to zaghrit like a BAWS!
If you’re Arab, then you know what the art of ‘zaghrit’ing is: that deafeningly loud sound that women emit during weddings. In Sudan, zaghareet don’t sound like “lololololololoy”. They’re more like “ayooyooyooyooyoooooy”. Kind of like a cross between a fire alarm, an ambulance siren and a really annoying bird.
18. Learn to pee in a hole in the ground.
The "hole in the ground" toilet
More often than not, you’ll get dragged along to visit The Family in the rural parts of Sudan. And when it comes to urinating, you’re going to have a wee bit of a hard time (no pun intended). The first time I came face to face with the hole toilet, I freaking almost wet my pants. After a lot of coaxing from my cousin, Ifinally managed, but I never made the mistake of going to visit The Family again, always picking babysitting duty over that train wreck. You, however, may not be as lucky as I am, and that is why, dear reader, I find it totally necessary to give you the following advice: Learn how to use the “hole in the ground” toilet. Fair warning: it doesn’t smell like brownies.
19. When invited to a wedding, bring all your friends along.
Za more za merrier!!!
20. Be totally awesome!!!
Despite our few shortcomings, we really are amazing people. Sudanese folks are the kindest, funniest, smartest, most hospitable people you will ever hope to meet (*flips Toub*). So if you really want to be Sudanese, there’s one thing youmust do:
Don’t forget to be awesome.

Living On The Edge (And Whatnot)

So, last night, two of my favourite people ever (Noor and Maryam) and I decided to have the best celebration of 8 years of friendship ever before Noor moves to the US for college (*sobs*).

So we decided to go to Russo's pizzeria. And because we are the most awesome-sauce human beings alive, we managed to convince ourselves that it was okay to get Russo's XXL pizza with the excuse that we were fasting and hungry, so we'd probably finish it.

Boy, were we wrong.

I think it goes without saying that we got quite a few whispers, sideways glances and outright stares, because we were 3 girls trying to consume a pizza made for 10 hungry men everyone was jealous of our swag.

I literally had to out-stare this girl who kept glancing at us while nibbling at her NON-GREASY, TASTELESS salad.

And in all honesty, I regret nothing, cause despite the fact that we had to pack up half the pizza to take home, and the fact that everyone thought we were cows, it was a pretty delicious meal and, well, we couldn't stop laughing throughout the evening (we even cried a bit when we saw the pizza), so that really did make it all worth it.

You gotta admit, though, we're so hard-core. Totally living on the edge.

The edge of coronary heart disease.

28 Things I Hate (Hey, that rhymes!)

Well, it’s that time of month. The time of month when I constantly feel like crap.
Yes, the full moon can be incredibly difficult for werewolves like me. So in the midst of my angst, I have decided to write you a blog post on a variety of things that I despise. Here we go:
1. Waiting
I’m terrible at that. The 20 minutes in the hall before CIE exams are torture for me. In fact, I couldn’t even wait till the actual full moon to post this entry.
2. Pplz who type layk dis
Guys, it was cool when we were 9. Now it’s just very unkewlz.
3. Girls who post pictures of themselves on social media websites and go “I’m so ugly”
I doubt this requires a sudden surge of genius, but if you think your picture is ugly, then you don’t post it online :)
Plus, if you really think it's an ugly picture, then you’re completely inconsiderate for subjecting the rest of us to that gruesome sight (which it probably isn’t).
Seriously, woman, pull yourself together!

Don't mind me. Just fishing for attention.
4. The sound of chairs scraping the floor
Now I consider myself a sufficiently tolerant person (which is evident from the fact that I have a blog called The PurposelessRants of Malak Mohamed), but the sound of chairs scraping the ground makes me want to pull my hair out, or rather, pull the hair of whoever’s scraped the chair against the floor out.
5. Mr. Examiner
I don’t know who Mr. Examiner is, but if he’s the same bloke that wrote our physics multiple choice paper, then I don’t like him one bit.

Mr. Examiner getting ready for the CIE May/June 2014 session.
6. Real Madrid (minus Carvajal)
I’d tell you what I don’t like about Real Madrid, but I don’t have all day year. I think I hate them more than the German national football team, which is saying something.
7. People who say that reading is uncool
To you, I say: YOU’RE  UNCOOL!!!

If it's on a t-shirt, then that means it's true.
8. WHEN PEOPLE STEAL YOUR SHOES AT THE MASJID, COUGH COUGH COUGH!!!
9. People who spoil books , movies and TV shows
Do I need to elaborate?
10. When people say leviosa
Come on, guys. It’s leviosa, not leviosa.

11. When people put on 5 pounds of make up
I know it isn’t any of my business what you do to yourself, but you’re hiding your beautiful face under all that make up.
12. When I have to hide my powers because there are Muggles around
*Sigh*
13. When parents tell their kids to be more like other kids
Okay, this has happened a lot with me. I’ve been told to be like other kids, and other kids I know have been told to be like me. Now I can understand the former, but why would anyone in their right mind ask their kids to be likeMalak? Are other parents aware that Malak barely helps out at home, hardly ever sets foot in the kitchen, and has a room as messy as the Argentina number 10 himself?!
14. When people toot their car horns in the middle of traffic jams, when there is clearly no way for anyone else to go
Oh, you tooted your horn? That’s it… everyone out of the way! This guy tooted his horn! Clear the road!
Sorry, I forgot my pixie dust at home.
15. The smell of ammonia
*shudders* I hate testing for ions.
How my mental friend Fatima inhales it like it’s vanilla, I will never understand.
16. Writer’s block
I started writing this story a while back, but I’ve been having writer’s block for 2 years now. It’s as frustrating as Brazil’s match against Germany was last night!
17. The Sudanese government
Can I get an amen?
18. The Life Talk
The Life Talk (in capital letters) usually begins with someone asking you what subjects you’re taking, and ends with them asking what you want to do with your life. And when you’re like me and don’t know anything at all, it can sometimes actually end with a kick in said person’s shins (told you I was tolerant).
19. When people speak loudly at movies
Oh wait… that’s me :)
20. Chopsticks
Those things are impossible. I will forever believe that Chinese people have mad skills.
21. When you have to re-explain the joke

22. Ladies that shout at Taraweeh
You know how there are always those ladies who bring their annoying little children to the mosque for Taraweeh prayers? Well, the only people more annoying than them are the women who spend the entire time shouting at those women for bringing their kids. What is your purpose?
23. Haters on social media (particularly on ask.fm)
Those anons that basically live on making others feel bad deserve to have their heads used as footballs in a Germany match.
24. When people disregard your passions
Which in my opinion is one of the most hurtful things a person can ever do to you.
25. 502 Bad Gateway Errors
When I was trying to post this thing to blog.com, I kept getting 502 Bad Gateway Errors. And it ticked me off so bad, I decided it was worthy of being on this list. (That is, by the way, the reason for my transition to blogspot).
26. When people don’t appreciate your puns

Puns make the world go round.
27. When people call me ملك
Please, people. It’s Malic Acid. Get with the programme.
28. Cliffhangers

And there you have it! 28 things that make my skin crawl. Until the next time inspiration strikes, this is Malak Mohamed, signing off!
